I was born in a little mining
town up in narrow
Copey
County. I grew up in a big white house
with my ma and my six brothers.
I had me a big horse to ride.
Ma had them thick carpets on the floor. I
guess a boy just couldn't ask for more.
It was on a
Saturday night that old
Doc
Haley rode by
I heard him tell
Ma somebody had robbed the mine
That two men had died
I heard
Ma asking,
Doc, do you know who they'd be?
As
Doc turned away I heard him say
it was too dark to see
Before long I heard the sound of horses
My six brothers come in, they join
Ma at the tie -in and all begin to
sing.
One stormy night
They came a knock on the door, and I saw something that,
well, I ain't never seen before.
I saw the badge of the law, and I heard that tall one say,
we come for your ma, boy, we're
gonna take her away.
And I followed behind.
But they took my brothers, too, to that old hanging tree,
I guess that's when I knew.
And there were tears in my eyes as
I heard that preacher say,
Before you go,
would anyone like to pray?
And my ma said, boys, let's sing.
Bring ing in the gold, bringing in the gold, we have come re joicing,
bringing in the gold, bringing in the gold, bringing in the gold
And we have come rejoicing
ringing in the ghost
ringing in the ghost
We have come rejoicing
ringing in the ghost
ringing in the ghost
