Intro 1

G
Tryin' to reach my destination
Verse 1
G

D

before the sun went down.

The old CB was blarin' away on channel one- nine,
A

When there came a little boy's
D

voice on the radio line.
A
D

And he said: "Breaker one-
G

nine! Is anyone there?

"Come on, truckers an' talk
D

to Teddy Bear!"
A

Well, I keyed the mic an' I said: "You got it,
D

Teddy Bear."

And a little boy's voice came

back on the air.

"'Preciate the break. Who

we got on that end?"
G

I told him my handle,
D

and, then he began:

"Now, I'm not supposed to bother

you fellows out there.
A

"Mom says you're busy and

for me to stay off the air.
D

"But, you see,

I get lonely and it helps me to talk,
G

'Cause that's about all I can do. I'm crippled,

and, I can't walk!"
D
A

I came back and told him to fire up that mic,
D

And I'd talk to him,
A
D

as long as he liked.
Verse 2
D
A

"This was my dad's ra dio",
D

the little boy said,
G

"But I guess it's mine and Mom's now,
D

'cause my Daddy's dead!"
A

"Dad had a wreck about a month ago.
D

"He was trying to get home
A
D

in a blindin' snow.
A

"Mom has to work now to
D

make ends meet,
G

"An' I'm not much help with

my two crippled feet."
D

"She says not to worry,
A

that we'll make it all right,
D

"But, I hear her crying sometimes

late at night.
Verse 3
D

"You know there's just one thing I want
G

more than anything else to see.

"Aw, I know you guys are too busy
D
A

to bother with me,
D

"But, you see, my dad used to take
A

me for rides when he was home.

"I guess that's all over now,
D

since my Daddy's gone."
G

Well, Sir, not one breaker

came on the old CB,

As that little crippled boy
D

talked with me.
A

You know, I tried hard to swallow,
D

but the lump just wouldn't stay down,

As I thought about my own little boy

back in Greenville Town.
Verse 4
D

"Dad was going to take Mom and
G

me with him later on this year.

"Why, l remember him saying: 'Someday,
D
A

this old truck will be yours, Teddy Bear!'

"An' I know I'll never get to ride
D

an eighteen- wheeler again.

"But, this old base will keep me in touch
G

with all my trucker friends.

"Well, Teddy Bear's gonna back out
D

now and leave you alone,
A

"'Cause it's about time for
D

Mom to come home.

"But, you give me a shout when
A
D

you're passin' through,

"And I'll sure be happy
G

to come back to you."
Verse 5
G

Well, I came back and I said:

"Before you go, ten- ten,
D

"What's your home- twenty,

little CB friend?"
A

Well, he gave me his address

and I didn't hesitate,
D

'Cause this hot load of freight

was just gonna have to wait.
G

I turned that truck around on a dime,

"An' headed straight for
D
A

Jackson Street: 229.
D

And as I rounded the corner, boy,

I got one heck of a shock:

Eighteen- wheelers were lined

up for three city blocks.
G
Well, I guess every driver for
Verse 6
D

miles around
G
D

had caught Teddy Bear's call,

And that little crippled boy was having a ball.
A

For as fast as one driver

would carry him in,
D

Another would carry him to his

truck and take off again.
G

Well, you better believe,
D

I took my turn at ridin' Teddy Bear,

And then I carried him back in and
A
D

put him down in his chair.

And buddy if I never live to see

happiness again,

I want you to know I saw it that day,
G

in the face of that little man.
Verse 7
G

We took up a collection for
D

him before his Mama got home,

And each driver said: "Goodbye,"
A

and then they were all gone.
D

He shook my hand with a mile- long grin,

An' said: "So long,
G

trucker. I'll catch you again!"
D

Well, I hit that Interstate with tears in my eyes,
A

D

And I turned on the radio

and I got another surprise.
A
D

"Breaker one- nine," came

a voice on the air,
G
D

"Just one word of thanks
G
D

from Mama Teddy Bear.
Verse 8
D

"We wish each and every one,
A

a special prayer, just for you,

"'Cause, you just made my little
D
A

boy's dream come true.
D
G

"I'll sign off now, before I start to cry.
D
G

"May God ride with you,
D
A

ten- four, and goodbye."
D

  • Die beste Tuning-App überhaupt

    MaddProfessor

  • Sehr gut aufgebaute App

    Rose the Black Cat
