It took a move to the
country to open up my eyes
A fall of rain, a muddy road,
I watched the puddles rise
I slipped on gumboots and
stepped out into the rain
And rediscovered splashing through
the muddy puddles again
The kids took me from the staff room
to the bush where they played
A world of carbies, of brave companions,
of secret hideaways
The joy of childhood they shared with me I was
reminded of imagination and the world
the children see
There's a wealth of life so easily just left
behind to rot
We say we've reached maturity,
we seem to
miss a lot.
We'd be a whole lot better off if we
took the time to share our lives with
our children.
Now a friend of mine with a book in hand
was sprawled out on the floor,
Taken to another place through
an open door
Engrossed in a living book
I remember the joy
Of my mum reading a story to me
in bed when I was a boy
There's a wealth of life so
easily just left behind to rot
We say we reached maturity,
we seem to miss a lot
We'd be a whole lot better
off if we took the time
To share our lives with our
children
I took a walk through the bush with friends,
we chatted as we strolled
Ran and laughed and discovered things to see,
to touch, to hold
A spider hole, a rusty lock,
so much to be found
By taking time to walk together,
taking time to look around
There's a wealth of life so
easily just left behind to rot
We might have reached maturity,
we seem to miss a lot
We'd be a whole lot better
off if we took the time
To share our lives with our children
